A Review on the Preparation, Properties and Applications of Vanadium Sheets
Vanadium plate is a thin plate functional material made from high-purity metallic vanadium through the rolling process. Vanadium (V, atomic number 23) has physical properties such as a density of approximately 6.0 g/cm³ and a melting point of up to 1910 °C, which enables a balance between high hardness and good ductility in the vanadium plate. It also exhibits excellent corrosion resistance, especially against strong corrosive media such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and seawater. Moreover, the low neutron absorption cross-section of vanadium makes it uniquely applicable in the nuclear industry, while its good biocompatibility provides a foundation for its application in medical implantation fields.
The preparation process of vanadium plates requires the use of vanadium powder or vanadium ingots with a purity of no less than 99.5%. Subsequently, through hot rolling and cold rolling processes, the thickness is controlled within the range of 0.1 to 10 mm. Finally, through annealing treatment, internal stress is eliminated to obtain finished products with high dimensional accuracy and stable mechanical properties. It is particularly important to note that vanadium reacts easily with oxygen at high temperatures, so the entire processing must be carried out under an inert atmosphere to prevent oxidation and ensure the quality of the material.

Their excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance ensure the stability of the batteries during long-term cycles. After being discarded, the metal vanadium can be recovered through metallurgical processes and reintroduced into the production chain.
